Dyckia burle-marxii bloom
Why some Cerrado Dyckias do not wide open their flowers?
Some Dyckias from Central Brazil area do not open their flowers
at full. Most probably this is so to preserve the ovarium from drying out
as they live in a very harsh region. Inclement sun, plus high temperatures and air humidity in its
lowest scale, usually lower than that of Central Sahara, are factors to prevent the flowers from open wide. During blooming time there in Cerrado area of Central Brazil the total air humidity may be as low as 18% and even lower. The normal total atmosphere humidity here in Joinville, for instance, is 95% to 99%. This is great for aroids like Anthurium.
Some Dyckia species as the Dyckia goheringii and Dyckia grandidentata and Dyckia marnier-lapostollei var. estevesii just present a tiny orifice from which emerge the masculine parts of the flower
