Dyckias sp saved from sure destruction

These Dyckias are most probably all species, all rare, all unknown.
They were saved by a guy in Campo Alegre from sure destruction by
sheep raising. A heard of sheep was introduced to an area where these plant grew.
Sheep do not feed on the leaves they feed on the whole plant. First they remove the plant from the rock then they eat them.

This is a dwarf species. Look, the plant is flowering.

Apparently the plants are enjoying the place an the treatment
or no treatment at all.

Pieces of cracked pottery tiles are left to be seen.
The orchid is a bulbochephalum. It grows amid Dyckias.

This rescuing was a miracle and maybe some of these plants
are unique, only ones left.
Sheeps were removed once more by these man request but it is just a matter of time
for the area to be turned into small week end leisure farms.

  1. A wonderful and dear story. So much habitat destruction in different ways.
