Dyckia marnier-lapostolei showing the lost of its silver scales

This is a wonderful Dyckia marnier-lapostollei variety and shows the damage
inflicted by a long term exposure to rain. The heavy rain washes the silver scales away.
In a short term the plant recover and the scales are replaced as our skin cells do turning into keratin. As our skin the plant seems to have a limit for this reposition and it comes a time when there is no way to recover. In its habitat the immense Central Brazilian Cerrado ( Kind of African Savana) it rains less than in South and silvery Cerrado Plants should not be exposed to the frequent heavy rain. This happens with Dyckia lindelvaldea, Dyckia argentea, Dyckia joanae-marcioi, Dyckia braunii and others.
It also happens with some Southern species as Dyckia fosteriana.
