Dyckia hebdingii affinis

Dyckia hebdingii affinis
this Dyckia hebdingii relative dwells on rocks close to the true Dyckia hebdingii
species in Arroio dos Ratos - Rio Grande do Sul.
Dyckia hebdingii is clearly tuening into a Complex Dyckia includind several
relatives and varieties. Also some taken as separated spicies are now
understood as member of a group or a Dyckia Complex.

We have two or three already known Dyckia complexes here in Southern Brazil: The hebdingii and the fosteriana Complex. The former in Rio Grande do Sul and the later in Paraná.
In Santa Catarina Dyckia brevifolia is assuming another Dyckia complex
that includes several brevifolia varieties.

Sure enough it is needed more than a blink of an eye to understand Dyckias.
The worst mistakes committed by science on Dyckias are all based on the fact
taxonomist took Dyckia as any other bromeliad species.
Dyckias are extremely difficult to be classified int species without any risk.
One must observe a candidate to new species for years before any attempt made with relative safeness. The plant must be followed in the field and also under culture.
Take some specimens from the wilderness dry some and dismantle other is not the right way to classify a new Dyckia. It is more than proved that just following a key of classification is not enough when we are dealing with Dyckias.
