Dyckia retardata a weird southern beauty

The name comes from the fact younger flowers can turn into fruits before the old ones do.

Dyckia retardata does resemble hebdingii and they are well related. Retardatas are usually green plants and can be found in many sizes from dwarf to big imposing ones.

They are native and endemic to Rio Grande do Sul and share habitat with Dyckia hebdingii and Dyckia domfelicianensis. They are rupiculous plants and thrive in sunny rocky areas.

These I show are the size of a football. These crowns are extremely beautiful and present many many leaves.

Flower stalks are branched and the yellow flowers are small as in both felicianensis and hebdingii.
