Dyckia lindelvaldeae...the cream of the cream of the small Dyckia species.
The legend here tells about the reason for this plant to be alive in Europe most accurately: Germany.
People say it was sent into Germany to be preserved as died straw (paille) scientist say excicata.
In my opinion, food for termites.
Scientists felt so moved by the beauty of this plant they preserved it ...but preserved it alive,
well planted and cultivated instead of inside a drawer to serve as food for the future termite generations.
Not long ago all animals and plants from the new Continent (America) must be sent to Europe to be described and published and preserved.
Today we understand ther the scentists must come to field and observe the plant iseveral ocassions and different seasons and times.
Dyckias are ALLURING indeed!
I think this is a very beautiful story.
Draings and excicatas, paintings were all fro m a time it took a month ( on good winds) to reach Europe. You just risked your own life on crossing the Atlantic on sailing boats.
The image capture today is quite different, and all the messures failed in many ways.
Today our Botany must change habits and atittude is order to be trustable.
We all are in need of a updated Botany.
