The most cold resistend Dyckia

Dyckia reitzii

This is for sure the most cold resistant Dyckia of all but....but.....
Don´t go on thinking it can resist the polar cold of a Chicago January for instance.

The plant is used to the froze and snow cause it lives just where is snows but open well your eyes. The snow here is a happening that gathers Brazilian from everywhere just to
to cold tremble chin for once. It is a rare and touristic event. Never or once in half a Century the snow endures a day. Normally it melts just when touches anything and when a layer is formed it never, never lasts more the brief hours.
We do not have snowy topped mountains!
This Dyckia lives on top of very high mountains here in Santa Catarina. It freezes in there even in Summer nights and it may snow too but gimme me a brake or better yet, many brakes... keep this baby out of the heated house in a Illinois winter night is just craziness.

Dyckias enjoy the very same temperatures you do when nude or when you are wearing those less than nothing suits of the Rio beaches bathers.
A Dyckia may survive an occasional serious froze but do you want survivors or healthy happy plants?

Dyckias as extreme Sun lovers and adorers of the light. They idolater the Sun. They are made for that.
Everything on a Dyckia claims for Sun. Keeping a Dyckia out in Montreal or in Berlin in January is the same as to keep a White polar bear in Copacabana also in January.

It is not just the warm of the Sun it is its Brightness! Dyckias need at least 10 hours of strong good light every day! The energy bill goes to the stratosphere.

Dyckias need ventilation! They feed by the underleaves stomata! The wind brings vital nutrients
to a Dyckia! They hate stagnant air as much as stagnant water.

Keep in mind if you are stark naked and feeling fine your Dyckia is happy too.
You do not need those weird calculus to be certain of the winter welfare of your beloved Dyckia.

Imagine yourself on a hammock by the beach...no no erase this image...imagine you
wearing those Rio bath suits and on a hammock by the beach..ok but not that Brazilian beach... imagine a Chicago Lake Michigan beach or a Saint Laurence River beach in Montreal .....
How long would you feel fine there in a windy, snowy, January night, jay naked on a hammock?

Keep in mind Dyckias are tropicals!!!!!
Resisting is not enjoying, appreciating!

A plant must be happy with us and not under any torment or torture.
Just a happy plant makes a fine figure.
