Some more of Dyckia excelsa...

 Dyckia excelsa
Those are  the notorious Dyckia lines.
Here, in this species they are furry.
This is a trick the plant has in order to cope with the severe drought and the schorching Sun.
At those times the plant lifts up its leaves and faces the Sun with its underleaf faces, reflecting it and protecting
the most precious areas of tender growth.
Dyckias are clever and smart plants....

This plant here is emiting several sprouts.
This plant only does this while young.

Excelsa is one of the most gorgeous Dyckia species of all.
Described by Elton Leme, a Brazilian botanist
and a Law representative.
The name to this species could not be better choosen,
 a perfect name!
