Dyckia reitzii rubra and some more oddities

Notice the petals are kept in spite of being dried.
This helps the plant to protect the seed pods from the UV-rays.
Reitzii grows in nature on top of the mountains and  this means more than 1000 meters high where UV-rays are intense. Also this behavior may help to prevent dehydration by the cold and the wind.

Another weird behavior is these tiny filaments on the top of the seed pods. These are part of the ovary and are the style and the stigma. Notice they are also kept. The stigma get the pollen and the style is a kind of neck that links the stigma to the ovary and conducts the pollen to the ovary.

All these seed pods were produce under controlled  pollination and they are all self pollinated.
