
The variety estevesii is not possible to be recognized by the looks of the spination of any Dyckia marnier.
Yes, the variety estevessi has more conspicuous spines but this is far from being science.
Some more varieties do have those spines too. My dog has four legs so does a zebra and Barão is not striped, not a bit.
Another a bit more trustable difference is the flowers being deep orange and not red and they do no open. Just a tiny hole on the top and the male portion is set out the flower through this orifice.
But it is impossible to recognize this variety. New other populations with the very same characteristic differences have been found. Dyckia marnier-lapostollei territory has increased ten times in last recent years.
You will need a Crystal ball to say who is who.
