Dyckia alba - Pedra do Segredo - Caçapava do Sul - RS



Dyckia alba

No ,no this is not a white plant.
This is a species and the name is a valid one but it refers to a white cotton like structure attached to the flower spike.
This name would be a bit more clear if it was Dyckia algodonosa (like cotton), alba always leads to the mistake of imagining a white Dyckia.
Science while naming plants is in
many ways and times a bit out of its mind and purpose ...to say the least.
Here the name leads to wrong conclusion when it should be Light.
The name should clear doubts and not generate some more.
