Dyckia hebdingii
Arroio dos Ratos - Rio Grande do Sul
Arroio dos Ratos - Rio Grande do Sul
Most probably Dyckia hebdingii will be taken as a group of
Dyckias with some very beautiful varieties.
Dyckias with some very beautiful varieties.
This Dyckia is securely one of the most beautiful
plants on the whole entire Planet.
It does not fails to allure any plant lover.
It has all the qualities one may wait:
- shape and form extremely attractive.
- Color and size
...and best of all: it is not a Brazilian Cerrado Dyckia that takes
two and a half ice ages to feel fine in any garden. It comes from South in Brazil and
it is used to some moderate frozes. But do not go on thinking it can take
days under ice or snow. This is insanity. A plant like this must be kept
as the rarity and the beauty it is. Do not keep a survivor but a healthy happy plant.
This is a Brazilian tropical...yes, indeed!
We here have very cold winter nights but do not imagine us... snow boarding...
It just does not fit to Brazil.
Here in Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul we may have some light snow.
When it does snow thousand of Brazilian come down here to tremble their chins
and gather the rare snow to make a sad and dwarf snow man.
These Brazilian snow raiders must be very agile otherwise they only see
water and mud. They may be as fast as Flash Gordon they won´t never see ice pendents
hanging from our roofs and wires. Brrrr...thanks Almighty!
I use to say here that snow is very beautiful, once you saw one snowy field you saw all of them and do not want to see any anymore. Snow is absolutely charming: on TV!
Those who are blessed to see it, touch it, roll on it, sit on it, lay down on it even swallow it, fine very fine indeed specially when we can go back
to Ipanema...now those forced to live with it and live on it when not under it....
No thanks. I wanna go back to my plow... so goodbye Yellow Brick Road...
A Dyckia kept under many starry frozen nights if could it would go back to its Brazilian plow, no doubt. Remember Wallie, the Wally Gator held in New York Winter and dreaming, day dreaming of the warm and sunny Everglades. Wally used to imagine himself on a hammock between two palm trees wearing sunglasses and having a Pina colada on a balmy sunny Florida.
Let your Dyckia savour a Pina Colada or better yet
our Cachaça. Keep it warm and provide some sun even an artificial one will do better than none!
