Dyckia fosteriana range and influence range. Dyckia reitzii range and considerations on both plants behaviors.

Well, why influence range? It is the area where we can find fosteriana looking plants. What?

We say that to avoid ego hurting but, in fact, those are all Dyckia fosteriana.  As already said here a species does not face the world its challenges and changing with an army of same looks soldiers. Dyckias are always prune to differentiate, adapt and change and Dyckia fosteriana is no exception. The once and long ago described Dyckia fosteriana comes in the center of this area I marked here on this South Brazil area Its range touches Santa Catarina and gets in it close to Canoinhas and goes north till Itararé in the state of the state of São Paulo. It is a large narrow strip that may be called Fosteriana Strip.

Fosteriana Strip invades Santa Catarina in the South and crosses Paraná going to São Paulo on the Northernmost area. The central areas around Ponta Grossa in Parana lives the fosteriana type, the one described. 

This area is all up to 1.000 meters high, very rocky and one can literally freeze to death during winter . Deep frosts and occasional snow are seen alongside this strip during winter times. Fosteriana share habitat with grasses that grow during Summer providing some shadow and get dried in Winters due to frosts and this way protecting Dyckias from severe cold burns. This very same behavior we find among Dyckia reitzii down south. Both reitzii and fosterina keep some closeness and same living styles. Reitzii Strip is a continuation southward of the fosteriana one. 

This is something to think about.
