Dyckia encholirioides spinosissima in Erwino´s Beach Praia do Erwino Northeastern Santa Catarina . Here photographed by the professional Luiz Hille under my request.
This species grows is found only in this spot of this still wide Atlantic beach. All the area bordering the beach is now a National Reserve to preserve the restinga vegetation.

Dyckia encholirioides spinosissima or multispina grows in a small spot here and it is not found any else on Earth. Thbis variety is much smaller than Dyckia encholirioides type and bears many more spines. Flowers are darker colored. A true wish Dyckia to any collection.

Dyckia encholirioides spinosissima produces smaller seeds than the type form. The wind spreads the seeds no farer than a few meters from the mother plant.

During very significant tides and sea tempests the sea water may reach the plants but this a rare nature happening meanwhile the plant is frequently sprayed by salt water. Restinga vegetation is composed by cacti and thick leaved sun loving species.
