Dyckia roots

Healthy health Dyckia roots must look as these here.
One of the first parts to die when dyckias are under waterless stress (lack of water)
are their roots. In dry situation the roots are worthless so their owners drink them.
Dried thin roots are used for holding the plant secure attached to the substrate.
Dyckias are not loose on the rocks. They have a rich layer of good substrate under them.
Dyckias are never alone on the rocks. They normally have a luxuriant forest above then to feed them with its leftovers like death organic material that will compound the Dyckia substrate.
No matter what you do nor how aerated is the substrate you offer to your plant. Once in a pot, the roots will circulate around the limits of the substrate and the pot wall.
This is a region the Dyckia mostly rely to take nourishment.
If you have your Dyckia into those miserable black plastic pots this rich area will boil by the necessary sun to make a Dyckia happy.
Potted plants are not the better situation for any of them. They want to be free as you do.
Free to emit their roots as far as possible and in a straight way. In a pot the roots circulate around the plant. This area is also rich in gases as methane
from the decomposing material of the substrate and CO2.
Carbon is the most important ingredient to a plant and it takes it from the air through their foliar stomata and also by the root system.
Those thin hair like roots you see on a dried substrate are death and won´t resuscitate anymore. The plant will need to make new roots.
Dyckias, no matter where they are native to, do not like absolutely dried substrate!
They may survive, but please do not keep survivors.
Keep healthy and luxuriant plants.
Lush is not on a plant which root system must be redone every few weeks.

We lust on lush luxuriant gorgeous plants!
Our brain notices that automatically.
