...on a bright sunshine day....

The Sun bathed beauty.

Dyckia adore Sun but they adore the have its roots well humid while sun Bathing.
Ye, they are xeric plants but they easily loose their beauty if dried out in the Sun.
They have many tricks in order to survive long periods without rain but
they waste no time with their beauty marks if the order is : survive!
First of all they shrink their absorbing roots and while they absorb their own roots, they rely on the tips of the basal leaves, then  the whole of the basal leaves get dried. Next the older leaves begin to dry their tips and then themselves get dried out. The tender young leaves up right collapsing over the growing center of the rosette protecting it and showing their reflective under leaves to the Sun. This is the stage when most of the times the fires take place burning all the dried material and the bushes all around.
When it rains again the plant is solitary and some steps ahead any other that must rely on seed to begin
life once again.
Our eyes, enjoy a plant in its full glory without any dried tips...just like this one here
a Dyckia hb Bill Paylen...today, a very good day, as  I found two more sprouts hidden amid its gorgeous canopy.....they are three by now.
