White Dyckia fosteriana

The silver thrichomas or silver scales are produced to help the plant to cope with the UV and IV Sun rays. Some Dyckia species have a thick silver coating and some individuals among a certain population are still more deep coated. This plants are white looking and are extremely beautiful for the human eyes. Scaled or deep scaled Dyckia fosterianas do occur once in a long while. One must have in mind here that these trichomas are very loose in this species and if the plant is allowed to recieve rain they will be washed away. The plant recovers for some lost but if this continues on and on the limit of recovering is reached and the plant become bald and drab looking.
This plant here in particular even has its scales gone with the wind! Even the wind removes its scales.
In nature this plants may be extremely rare and undetectable.
Dyckia fosteriana is a Complex of Dyckias and this is possible for this species is scattered in sone very large area in Paraná. Some have been found much Souther in Paraná than it once was supposed to be possible. All Dyckia plants presents some pecucliar types in its progeny. So, selection made by the Dyckia lover is very rerwarding when we deal with this wonderful plant.
