Dyckia reitzii an up mountain dweller

Dyckia reitzii
Named in honoring the brilliant Catholic preacher Father Raulino Reitz.
Born and lived in Santa Catarina he dedicated most of his life on studying and understanding
our bromeliads in a time no one cared for them.
He was known as The Bromeliad Father (O Padre das Bromélias.).
He had being to every mountain, valley and remote places in  the South Region of Brazil.
No one up to now understood and saw as much of Santa Catarina Wilderness as O Padre das Bromélias.

Dyckia reitzii lives in the uppermost of the highest Santa Catarina mountains.
This plant loves cool nights and can resist temperatures well down below zero Centigrades.( Of course not for endless days on a roll, here we mean hours, very few hours.)

Dyckia reitzii is an unique Dyckia species as most in its remarks is  just found on it alone.
No other Dyckia species presents such leaf form, spination, flower and arrangement.
Once you saw one of them you will never forget its peculiarities and looks.
