New and unnamed!
Dazzling!
Looks like a star explosion.
Nicely endumented under leaves.
Belongs to the vast and unique Santa Catarina Northeast uphills Dyckia complex.
There a myriad of new looks can be seen altogether.
some are numerous and some are unique, an only one.
From that region we have:
Dyckia donarenatae,
Dyckia noelii,
Dyckia gloriosa,
Dyckia donafranciscae,
Dyckia campesinae,
Dyckia campoalegrensis,
Dyckia monticola,
Dyckia dusenii,
...and many more.
Some are described already, some under the process of description, many just left there...
the region is a rarity in terms of Dyckias and maybe the most important to make us all understand how Dyckias really behave in nature.
Fact is: we´ve only just begun to understand Dyckias and what we do know up to now is far far away form the middle point...and most of what we say to know is really based on mere conjecture and sheer guessing. A serious long observation period was not yet made on field.
Dyckias are not in any sense comparable plants. They are unique and their behavior is tremendously unusual. They are settler plants. They make the soil on the rocks where huge trees finally grow.Araucaria angustifolia, the Brazilian pine tree is a huge tree and one of the most beautiful and bizarre ones. They thrive exclusive on organic soil on huge rocky surfaces now way below ground.
Dyckias were there first and perished after their job had being accomplished.
Dyckia perish in shadow and today the most lethal shadow is within our own brains. The danger is not under the pine canopy but lies well hidden within our hypocrisy.
Note: some few hundred kilometers Northwest lives an unnamed Dyckia species well within a Araucaria angustifolia forest close to the Paraná small town of São João do Triunfo. I showed this plant already here. It is being suffocated by the canopy now and just a few is left.
