Dyckia remotifolia
Adult  collected plants from Rio grande do Sul,
This plant is almost lost in wilderness due to sheep raising farms.
The animals dig up the plants and eat them whole: leaves, roots, flowers...
We can only find some left plants well close to a fence post where the animal´s lips can´t go
or just grazed on the leaves. The plants in the fields are  tremendously small.
There are several regional varieties and this is one of the prettiest. The species has an ample range including Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil where it occurs in Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná and Santa Catarina.
It reproduces by stolons and loves sandy soils.
A deep red regional variety was recently found  west in Santa Catarina close to Argentina border.
