Brand new found Dyckia species from Rio Grande do Sul.
This baby was collected as seed almost two years ago!
The wild population is so small we all feared extinction.
As seedling is a true happening in wilderness the land owner
was instructed to preserve and also produce new seedlings
to assure the population will last.
The wild specimens were attached to a rocky vertical cliff.
We were said the once, before the tobacco plantations there were many
growing down the cliff. The land owner was instructed not to use this very small
part of land just close to the rocks for cropping tobacco plantation.
We know the owner is protecting the area and also seedlings
are developing well where once they thrive down the cliff.
Knowledge is the main key for preservation.
Education is the magic wand, no doubt!
The spines here are soft and rubbery as in Dyckia delicata
Maybe this is a Dyckia delicata affinis.
