It is native to Ibirama, a small beautiful town in Santa Catarina.
Described by father Raulino Reitz it is found downtown Ibirama in the Rio Itajaí do Norte or Rio Hercílio rapids.
It well may be a natural hybrid evolving Dyckia wilsonii and Dyckia brevifolia both common in the area around it. In fact most of the plants described as species are natural hybrids.
Dyckias are not common plants and they have some remarkable characteristics.
