Dyckia Brittle Star X Dyckia Arizona
Well this is so similar to the real Brittle Star I dare to say this is it.
I have both and they flower at the very same time.
We are going to compare their flowers.

Big vitrified (oxid enameled) bowls
The orange and the yellow colored are made in Vietnam,
The one in the center is made here in Blumenau, a town close to
where I live Joinville in Santa Catarina State, Brazil.
The Vietnamese ones are resistant and very expensive ones.
I love them all and Dyckias also love them.

Dyckia reitzii rubra
The first flowers are pollinated successfully by this biped bee and his paint brush.
Notice the petals are shrinking.
These freshly opened flowers are still to be self pollinated by that funny odd looking bee.
Those few to be opened will be left on account of the hummingbirds.
I love surprises ....
But up there the new pollinated ones must be well protectd
I am anxious to show you all the seed pods....

The nectar abundance is impressive.
It is just 6:00am and the day began cloudy and cold, no pollinating agent but me is around.
This means no pollination atempt will work now.
I will wait till the day warm up a bit and will uncover the flower stalk once more
and we wil check this again.
I will self pollinate some more flowers and thenI will make some crossings. I have echolirioides spinossissima, Brittle Star, pectinata .......
Notice these flowers are drenched in nectar.
Hummingbirds would love to reach them.
Also notice the basal flowers have being successfully pollinated by this biped bumblebee.

Dyckia reitzii rubra juvenile leaves and adult ones
The plant above is an adult one but it presents juvenile leaves. Why?
´Cause it crested and the leaves got back to the young type.
Notice they are longer, the spines are more conspicuous and leaves are narrower.
Here above and bottom you see both plants.
The one to the left presents juvenile leaves and that to the right presents its wonderful adult leaves.

These pictures were taken today, under rain.

What is different here? What is unusual and uncommon?
Look the dried petals continue there!
Nothing is for free in nature and everything has a reason to exist.
What for?
Dyckia reitzii is a mountain dweller, it only exists above 900 meters up to 1700 meters high.
The dried petals are there to protect the sensitive seed po0ds from the severe sun burning!
Mountain flowres can be furry and also its leaves. Dyckia did not made furry seed pods but it invented petals that last as long as the seed pods.
This is science, finding out and sharing.
Hidden knowlegde does not exist!

Al pollinated floweres !
Look, look straight here, can you see the dripping nectar?
These flowers are scented, full of nectar and pollen.
The recent days have being prefect and sunny. Nights are fresh.
All and every flower is already pollinated.
The pollinator agent choosed just the best pollen and made self pollination here.
They say this agent is very laborious.... it is a biped mammal!
He uses a paint brush as proboscis.....
See that nectar drop here, can you spot it?
This flower stalk is well protected and the only pollinator agent is me.
