Dyckia hebdingii.

This is only one plant a multi-headed one.

I began as a single head plant some 20 years ago.

Each head or plant is a result of a head split, a division.

It lives in a square Japanese bonsai pot, a dear one to me as it was a gift from a friend in Tokyo.

This is the type hebdingii. Dyclia hebdingii presents many,many, many forms and all are hybrids, natural ones. It is foud hybridized with Dyckia chorestaminea ( describes as Dyckia juliana) and others.

A new found one from Brazil center.

This dark chestnut-colored small beauty is a variable one and it is native to the center part of Brazil in Chapada dos Veadeiros. Probably it is a hybrid and the parent plants disappeared and are no longer trackable. This is more a commonplace than we can wonder.

some Dyckias species are hybrids in spite we do not spot their parent plants anymore nywhere around.

Seeds will show many new ones, neve seen before.

A Dyckia encholirioides on the left thriving as a bog plant

Dyckias are amazing plants. They love humidity but not too much and anything can be much and too much but... We have some reophitic species that can stay submerged for days in a roll. Dyckia brevifolias does that frequently during the Itajaí River floods.

Dyckia encholirioides live close to the sea. I say it can´t resist living without listening to the sea waves. A bluish species lives in a blog in between two peak mountains here Southeast in Paraná State. This green beauty you see here is an ecncholirioide/brevifolia hybrid and since it sprouted from its seeds it lived as a bog plant in my livebearer fish tank. It grew as a stray seedling amid the Sarracenias, a notorious bog plant.

Dyckia sulcata, the green and the white forms

Fan can be fun. Dyckia potiorum has many many colors and all the shades in between

Here this plant is grown as it is found in nature. It is not upright, but lying on the ground.

I nicknamed its crab Dyckia for it carries all its belongings on its back.

Dyckia brevifolia var subidensis xantic colorful seedlings

 These seem to be super colorful; They are not the famous and beautiful Golden Glow. These descents from Dyckia brevifolia var subidensis collected by me in nature. Xanthic individuals are more commonplace amid this variety and as Golden Glow, the color is not fixed year round. They get solely green during our winter months in Santa Catarina - Brazil when the days are much shorter nd the light is pale. All in all these re marvelous small plants.

Bellow, you see an old clump of Dyckia brevifolia var. subdensis.

They are smaller than the brevifolia type.

They are falling from their pot, spilled they hang down their pot.

the type form was collected close to where this exists in nature.

The xanthic comes from these plants.

Native to my hometown in Santa Catarina uphills it is used to frosts and a occasional snow.

It lives up on Tres Picos moutain.

A fine Dycki reitzii rubra hybrid

I like hybrids as they tell more than one can hear.

The mother plant here was a Dyckia reitzii rubra and the father plant was a fosteriana.

Both southern native plants here in Brazil and both are multi leaved plants.

See two distinct marks, the white underleaves, and the leaf tips.  

The leaf tips denote this is a Dyckia reitzii descent. Margins are kind of lifted upwards near the point of the leaves.

This hybrid can stand mild frosts and as both parents, it is multiplied by head divisions only.
