Dyckia discoides

We are intrigued as Dyckia discoides may be the very same as Dyckia magnifica.
We are observing both and this one is about to bloom here, in Djenes´ garden, by the very first time.
these are Santa Catarina Southwest native beauties.

 

You can notice the flower stalks emerging amid the leaves canopy.

Dyckia reitzii rubra
The plant to the left divided its crown and got juvenile leaves (narrower and longer ones also longer spines.)
One would thing it is a different plant but it is not.
Dyckias, we barely began to know them!

Dyckia lindelvaldeae

This is a challenge to me as never, never I saw a plant, a cultivated one, nearly as perfect as any in wilderness. Something seems to be missed.
These I show are  nothing compared to those in wilderness.
the rosettes are simply perfect and the leaves  super  super scale covered all over and much much wider.

We all have much to find out about it and one thing is for sure, we all have....
What a surprise!

Dyckia reitzii rubra

These two plants were absolutely equal and showed the very same look.
Then the plant to the left decided to divide head profusely and look,notice the difference in their leaves.
The one to the left, the one that went almost crested so plenty full was its head divisions got back to its juvenile leaves. Compare both plants.

Without means to compare one would believe the plant to the left  presented  normal adult looking leaves and this is not true. Some Dyckias present notably differences when young, juvenile and adult.
One would take these two plants as different species or varieties and positively they belong to the very same  species and variety.

Dyckia delicata from Tomba Bodes Hill

This is a more compact plant, green, and bears longer yellow spines.
Tomba Bodes is just  50 meters apart from the type form place.

Petals are kept even after being dried in Dyckia reitzii.

In spite of the  scars still shown this must  be a must have dreamy one...
First time ever blooming here.

 

 

 

This is a plant  with double heads and it was attacked by insects which larvae fed on its trunk
I managed to save it and it is here clearly recovering. . The small sprout  visible on the left  is a young side sprout that  got loose and I recovered it.
This plant is bound to be beautiful.

 .

Dyckia brevifolia subidensis

I showed subidensis here in its habitat.
Now I have some news, yes it does not bloom in the very same time as Dyckia brevifolia.
It does clump as a deuterocohnia.
Brevifolia is here an early spring bloomer the regional variety subidensis (from subida) is a late spring one.
Subidensis presents  much smaller rosettes  and it is paler green colored.
In fact one of the most beautiful and ornamental Dyckias.
