This baby comes from Paraguay an its flowers are impressive.
They are huge old yellow flowers. The spike in which they are attached to is slender and short.
Produces just a very few flowers at a time.
The plant is hard to pup and keeps on dividing heads.

Colors? Colours! Substance! Joyfulness...

A hint of red? No, lots of it!
The red is not a Dyckia but a nice bigeneric hybrid.
This is a Neophytum,a man made plant.
The silver are Dyckia marnier lapostollei and Dyckia fosteriana nivosa.

Blooms in big orange flowers attached to a strong unbranched stalk.
Seeds are very big and abundant and germinates promptly.
Another weird characteristic aspect of this plant is its the sparse spination.

This is another not described jewel.
It is small and crown shaped.
Certainly a striking plant.
Extremely similar to some forms of Dyckia fosteriana
but they live almost 1000 km apart from each other.
I made some very beautiful hybrids with this guy here.

The Dream Hybrid Dyckia sprouts

A true Dream Dyckia
Silver on red wine and bloody red spines.
It is very difficult to imagine something much better than this.
As an hybrid this plant almost certainly won´t breed true so
the only way to get copies is by cloning and
clones this baby knows how to do.

This side sprouts or pups are equal and clones from the mother plant.
They should not be planted immediately. They are going to stay this ways for some days and then they will be planted.
This plant came form Australia and reach me as a gift from friends in Innsbruck - Austria
It was a very expensive plant even for European patterns.
Out from this I do not know a thing about this plant: name, who made it and so on...

This new brand new one may be some Dyckia fosteriana affinis.
Thrives South from Dyckia fosteriana kingdom but close to the Dyckia fosteriana var. nivosa, a smaller and pretty Dyckia fosteriana variety.
Blooms during late winter in deep red/orange conspicuous flowers.

This is not a small Dyckia. Got the name honoring The Catholic Father
and brilliant botanist Raulino Reitz.This is also a Santa Catarina native Dyckia.
Thrives on high rocky mountains.
This plant is known as the snow Dyckia ´cause it grows where snowing is possible.
This is quite weird for a Tropical country but Brazil has a cold Southern part and here the snow occurs on higher parts.
A red form may be found and totally silver Dyckia reitzii is reported to exist, also a oddly striped variation thrives on a very secluded place.

This is one of the finest representatives of the Brazilian
bromeliad rocky ground flora.
For sure a Dream Dyckia. A DD!!!
The flower stalk here is no thicker than a match and the flowers are deceptive, seeds go on this way too, they are tiny.
The plant looks compensate this all.
Here in Santa Catarina 900 km South from its habitat, the plant
begins its flower spike now in the beginning of Southern autumn.
Joinville can be as cold as -3 degrees centigrade and just for some few hours
always during dawning.
In spite of living way North from here
the plant in nature takes some freezing temperatures.
The plant lives high on the mountain.

Certainly one of the most magnificent Dyckias of all.
It is not a small plant and can reach up to 70 cm diameter rosette.
Spines are soft rubbery.
There are two other wild forms, the red one and the normal silver yellowish one.
All forms are authentic nature masterpieces.

This beautiful lady of the South rocks has a wide wild range
and so some forms are seen.
The described form comes from Porto Alegre, a huge town in fact the biggest one of The entire Brazilian South Region.
this one you see here comes from the northeastern part of its range and it is characterized by its small size and deep silver and red color.
In my opinion the most charming of all.
The one we see abroad is the one the came from downtown Porto Alegre and was vanished from the top of the hill when a state Company installed communication antens.

This species has many small and bloody red spines.
Makes very beautiful rosettes.
The underside of the leaves are heavy silvery scaled.
The plant lift up the leaves to face the scorching sun and
protect the growing center.

This beauty produces uncountable tiny yellow flowers and very small seed.
The seed are in such a profusion one flower stalk may hold enough seeds to populate the Milky Way and some more.
September is the occasion. November the seeds will be ready and by plenty.

A new baby beauty from Northeastern Santa Catarina

Here it is getting into its red phase.
The plant is a drab chestnut colored but in certain conditions
it gets deep red.
This is not a red form.
