Dyckia julianae

Dyckia julianae
Flowers in yellow in one meter tall slender spike.
This plant is mistaken to Dyckia chorestaminea the spaghetti Dyckia.
A second look will soon put things on the right dish.

Dyckia noelii

The hut in the jungle...
Where is the smoke going out from the chimney?

Dyckia hatschbachii

Dyckia hatschbachii
Paraná native species.
This one is not as huge as Dyckia enchoirioides.
Produces conspicuous yellow flowers, big for a Dyckia pattern.
This species is well arranged architecturally and it is a nice choice for hybridizing.

"arriba muchacho!" Un poquetito de Mexico y Dyckias pero no mucho...

Look, look close...isn´t it pretty?

This is a pottery by myself made Mexican House.
..this hybrids Dyckias too.
Do you like it?
Everything is on a shallow tray, pottery too.
This is for the child that lives inside all of us...

Remember Antoine in The little Prince (A masterpiece on human relationship!)
" Look, look close...your sheep is in there."
Antoine could not drawn the correct sheep for the blond little demanding prince. One seemed to be too sad, the other too thin and one other too fat. So he made a drawing of a cartoon box with some holes on it and said: your sheep is in there..."
So look close, look... there you must see the brunette Mexican girl with a ruby smile and turquoises hanging from her hears... Look.
We are unique as long as our sheeps are impossible to match...
...and I wish you a wishing star and please don´t go on wasting
falling stars....

Soup is served, Sir.

My grandmother Portuguese earthenware soup bowl got a destiny at last.

Nothing like some rare Dyckias to celebrate the end of a
useless fragile leftover.
Oh, my dear don´t panic there a fatal crack on the bottom.

From ...the end of the Rainbow! " Of course my dear Watson."

Dyckia Rainbows End.

When they come out from the tapped plastic baby pot... then you hold your breath.
They come from the end of the rainbow.
They just get out from your dreams.
You just caught the falling star, made a wish and it turned to be truth, touchable.
Up you see a young seedling from a Dyckia delicata and a Dyckia sp Red from Barros Cassal-RS
Promise to be a astonishing plant!

Dyckia brevifolia and Dyckia sp Campesina

Dyckia Sabiá Nest
(Sabiá is our national sing bird, a wagtail bird.)
Imagine this little seedling a year ahead from now.
Dyckia delicata and Dyckia sp Rondonópolis

Dyckia sp Red from Barros Cassal and Dyckia sp Campo Alegre
Two strangers ( unknown to the science) met for a night stand.
This offspring is gorgeous.

Dyckia argentea red form

Totally rare and absolutely beautiful these Dyckia argentea red form
promise to wide open eyes. They are young adults now and they have much to improve int their beauty parlor.
Most Dyckias only show their final mask after blooming.

Dyckia leptostachia

This one was one of the first Gaucho Dyckia do cross the Atlantic to North.
It has being used as hybridizer to give color to the out coming breed.
This guys is a compulsive shooter, emitting pups far away from the mother plant.
It is not confined to the rocks grows on sandy grounds too.

Dyckia from NSCHDC

The Northest Santa Catarina Highland Dyckia Complex
has much to show in terms of new species and natural hybrids.
This makes us think...don´t all Dyckias came form one or..at the beginning
there was just one or every species happened to be all at the same time?
The reasonably is to think of one and all others are descent or ....natural hybrids.
This NSCHD Complex seem to be a factory of new Dyckia species.

This one in particular is green and silver dusted all over.
Flowers in very showy yellow petals.

A bloody small one...

From Minas with love...
Yes this baby comes from the land of the cheese bread.
There they cook white rice and the grain does not stick together.
Well, this is a small Dyckia possibly already knew to science.
Here I am the one who does not know!
Small, hard bears very thin long and strong red spines.
This little rocky gem removes your skin and flesh.
It is a sanguinary one loves to take blood from you.
Flowers? One day, one day...soon.
I would propose the name:
Dyckia sanguinaria
( Fond of blood Dyckia.)

Dyckia sp - Painel-SC

This is also a novelty. Something brand new from Southwest
Santa Catarina mountains.
In the winter time it may be extremely cold up there.
It snows frequently and the temperature may drop way below freezing point.
This Dream Dyckia grows on rocks facing North and just a skilled alpinist can get close to it.
It is a colorful plant.
These never flourished, a young seedling above and a young plant below.
Everything else about this Dyckia stays to be known.
Brand, brand new one.

The conspicuous spines are hard and injurious.

The plant is well armed.
This young plant is producing lateral pups.
So it must be a clump forming Dyckia.

Dyckia sp - Tres Passos - RS

Dyckia sp - Tres Passos - RS

This is one rarity from Northeastern Rio Grande do Sul.
Its spines are rubbery as well those of Dyckia delicata from the central area of the Rio Grande do Sul. This plant here is much smaller than its counterpart but as pretty.
I have heard about a red form, a rubra one.
It fits well into one´s hand.
A very hard to find plant. This is not a self fertile Dyckia. I have just this one plant.
Flower in orange petals, conspicuous and 80 cm high.
I crossed with success with a Dyckia fosteriana and everybody loves the result.
Never heard a word from the academic science about this creature.
It grows on granitic cliff walls facing North.

Another beauty from NSCHDC

The green one is a Dyckia ibiramenis and those beauties in front of it are native to
Northeastern Santa Catarina Highlands Dyckia Complex, another gem from the rocks.

..from the NSCHDC

Dyckia erthrina

Dyckia leptostachia amid Dyckia richardii

Dyckia ricardii sharing room with a Dyckia leptostachia.

Dyckia sp Entrepelados-RS

This one can take flesh out of you.
It is a fiercely bloody beast!
Gets red, red, red and silvery dusted all over.
The red here is a phase and not a form.
A sturdy hard and no mercy to one´s skin and flesh Dyckia.
Stay out of it!

A perfect Match

Dyckia ibiramenis and Dyckia fosteriana - Cambé-PR
That´s a perfect match.
Look at the Dyckia ibiramenis. Now tell me...
How possibly this plant could be so extravagantly rare?
The plant breeds like mice.

The golden crown that makes a Dyckia a Dream One.

Beauty is the golden crown that makes a Dyckia a Dream One.
Yes, that is a man made one.
Personally I´d rather take care of those from our trays...
Look at this perfection in all leaves and spines.
A have a good name for it... it bear blood red spines and silver leaver
and nobody seems to know exactly how this one was made so...
BLOODY PIRATE
So from now on: Dyckia Bloody Pirate, could not be better.

Those are bond to be great!

The Most magnificent Dream Dyckia is not hidden in a valley nor atop
a big mountain. No it won´t come from nowhere but your pots.
It will come on a tray...like this.
Here, the Dream Dyckia is just waiting to be seen.
These seedlings have half and half Dyckia delicata and Dyckia sp
red from Venâncio Aires -RS

Dyckia dusenii

Yes, this is Dyckia dusenii.
It may grow a lot more and turn to be a big one.
It comes in all sort of shades and hues of olive green and
also plain green.
The high point in this wonder Dyckia is the flowering.
The flower spike is a sight to behold for a Dyckia. It stands a some one meter straight high and bears big orange flowers.
It would be a perfect plant for producing cut flowers.
The two little plants here belong to a brand new and charming new species from Paraná.
They look like a Dyckia brevifolia but they have much to grow...
