A stray breauty amid the dakotas

Stray hybrids are common place and they occur more often than we desire.

Two Dyckia plants in bloom will  cross if their place is life rich with  creatures that love nectar and Dyckia uses them all. Hummingbirds and some more necteridaeae birds, ants, butterflies, mots, mouses, bats, bees, flies are  all crazy for Dyckia nectar.  Some say even the wind  may be used by these beautiful flowers. I do not think the wind as a pollinator agent but for sure it make its role is distributing the seeds as well as the water.

Look who is  looking at us from the dakotas clump. It has some characteristics that leads me to get to know the parents here. Dyckia brevifolia as mother plant and I say Red reitzii as pollen donator October is Dyckia brevifolia flowering season nd reitzi extends their flowering till December. Of course just a DNA exam would tell but  that is for those who care.

See this lovely intruder...
