Seeds are available under request.

As one can notice a Sinningia grows amid them. This is a local intruder. Sinningias grow here everywhere one can conceive even wall are not safe from them. they bloom beautifully and we hesitate to remove them and....

Dyckia delicata-delicata

Dyckia delicata-delicata

A work of art to celebrate the 300.000 visits to my Blog.
Thanks, I am very happy for this accomplishment.
This is a Blog dedicated solely on Dyckias and one of the most comprehensive one.
here it was shown in several pictures one of the most spectacular plants of all bromeliads, Dyckia delicata.
Here one could see by the very first time  the incredible variations  of this species.
I try to show what is not normally shown and demystify Dyckias.
I want to say Thank you.

 Dyckia reitzii rubra Fortaleza

These two magnificent rubra varieties will bloom at the very same time.
This will allow some reitzzii rubra X reitzii rubra cross.

Dyckia excelsa

Dyckia excelsa

This is a very fine specimen of Dyckia excelsa.

Dyckia reitzii rubra Fortaleza and its impressive dark red/wine leaves

The deep dark leaves here contrast with the whiteness of the under leave surfaces.

Notice the plant is initiating blooming. It blooms here at the middle of Winter.
the deepest the temperatures the shorter the floral stem.
This way one can tell correctly  tell how the winter temperatures were by the size of the floral stalk.
The highest the stalks milder were the temperatures.

I have seeds from this very same plant here shown.
The spines on the rubra plants shine in red and not black as on the green ones.
Another very important point here. Plants from Fortaleza Canyon no matter being green or deep dark they produce seeds that produce both plants, green type  and deep red wine ones.

Dyckia delicata can easily be called the Queen of the Abyss

Dyckia delicata

Perfection in leaves. this magnificent plant could easily be called the Brazilian  Queen of the Abyss.
Rare and beautiful it defies imagination and the braves bold enough to get it.

Notice the many many spiny leaves and how they look together.
...and better yet these spines won´t harm your skin, they are soft!
Could it be better?

Stunning beautiful to say the minimal here.

Yes, Dyckia delicata! This is the type form, the described one!!!

 Dyckia delicata type form

This one plant collected from wilderness is the type form delicata, the one described as type form.
It is a plant that grows amid trees and bushes on the scarped and loose rocky hill in wilderness.
It is a bigger plant than those bearing longer teeth that from on sunnier ,ore exposed areas close, close, close by , meters only. Before I showed there was more in there than we should think, this is the only delicata known to exist. Now we see at least then new forms, some absolutely striking beautiful.

Dyckia hebdingii X Dyckia sp from Rondonópolis-MT

This hybrid emits lateral sprouts and also divides its crown.
This blue white shade comes from the mother plant, a Dyckia hebdingii from Lageado Roxo-RS.

Jul 4, 2014

No, this is not Dyckia hebdingii and it is not even related to it.

Oddly enough this is not Dyckia hebdingii!!
This plant was found in Chapada Diamantina - Bahia.
Dyckia hebdingii comes from Arroio dos Ratos - Rio Grande do Sul
In nature this plant here and Dyckia hebdingii are more than 3.000 km apart from each other.
Adding g oddities to this, it blooms extremely similar to hebdingii. Flowers are tiny and many. Floral stems are almost identical.

It needs eyes of an expert to tell them apart.
Isolated plants even at bloom are almost impossible to distinguish from each other.
The floral stems in this plant from Chapada Diamantina are black/deep purple and all bracteas are longer and narrower than those of  hebdingii. Hebdingii floral stems are green.

Intriguing to say the very least here.
Dyckias? As I use to state we know just a tiny part.
They barely began to tell us their  botanic history.
